By the street here is where we preach at night
Some people crossing the street that hear us
Here are some of the people that walk by
Saturday night, as I started preaching, there were a few guys sitting on a bench nearby, facing the other way, that kept turning around and telling me to shut up. In my book, thats grounds for me going over to them and telling them the gospel. Most people are not comfortable with direct confrontation; fortunately I am not one of those people. I went over to them and asked if they wanted to talk, they said no and told me to go away. So I stood in front of them and told them that we all fall short of the glory of God and deserve to be punished and go to Hell for breaking God's law. They consciously looked down as I talked and kept smoking their cigarrettes and then looked up and said, Hallelujah. We know all of that, we both used to be religious. I said that the only way we can be right with God is by trusting Christ to save us from our sins. They said that they were already right with God, that one of them used to go to church. I tried to tell them more, and then I saw it was to no use, so I went back to my place to preach, and they eventually left.
I preached from some verses in Hebrews, that Christ "is able to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing that He ever lives to make intercession for them." I preached that we need a priest to stand before God for us, to reconcile us to God, and that Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead and is in heaven at the right hand of God is the only mediator between God and men. And that Christ is the only one able save them from their sins; no one else can. And that He saves us not from some of our sins, or most of them, but all of them.
God's ministers are to preach in season and out of season. This was out of season. I struggled for things to say and motivation to continue. My heart didn't rise much to what I was preaching, but the Lord sent more than a handful of people that night to come up to me and encourage me and sincerely thank me for what I was doing.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Sounds like you have all kinds of situations. I appreciate your calling and courage to fulfill it. Keep up the good work.
